Pilate & Herod

Luke 23

Then the priests and elders bound Jesus with ropes and had Him dragged before the Roman governor, Pilate.

"So are You the King of the Jews?" Pilate asked."Yes," said Jesus. "It is as you say."Pilate asked a few more questions, then turned to the people and said, "I see no reason to punish this Man." But the priests and elders didn't like that answer. And so Pilate sent Jesus to stand before Herod.Herod asked Jesus lots of questions, hoping that Jesus would perform a miracle. But Jesus remained silent. So Herod and his soldiers cruelly mocked Jesus, then sent Him back to Pilate. "I still see no reason to kill this Man," said Pilate to the Jewish leaders. But they would not listen. They demanded that Jesus be killed."But why?" cried Pilate. "For what crime?""Crucify Him!" cried the angry crowd. "Crucify Him!"

Pilate and Herod

Herod was a small-time king over Galilee, while Pilate was the Roman governor over all Judea. They did not get along. When Pilate heard that Jesus came from that area under Herod's direct rule, he was happy to send Jesus to Herod.

Herod was curious about Jesus' miracles. To him, Jesus was an interesting person and he was curious about these miracles he had performed. Jesus could have performed a miracle and possibly been saved from death. But that was not God's plan, and Jesus knew that. Herod mocked Jesus witha fine robe.

Many people think that Jesus was interesting, a prophet perhaps, but not the Son of God. But when they heard that he is king, and that he demands that they submit to him,they lose interest. Who is your king?
