Abraham Obeys God

Genesis 12

One day, a man named Abraham was told by God, "Abraham, I want you
to leave your homeland and everyone you know. Go to a certain place—I will show you how to get there. And when you get there, I will bless you and make you into a great nation."

So Abraham took his wife Sarah and his nephew Lot, and they set out toward the land of Canaan. They brought all their household servants, all their animals, and all their belongings.

Abraham and his household traveled wherever God told them to go. During that time God took very good care of them. But Abraham and Sarah were growing older, and still they had no children. How could God make a man with no children into a great nation?

But one night God said, "Abraham, look up at the heavens and count the stars if you can. That is how many descendants you will have in the years to come."

In time, Abraham and Sarah did have a son, and they called him Isaac. And they thanked God for their beautiful baby boy.

It's Worth It To Trust God

God had a plan for Abram, which included three promises that are mentioned many times throughout the Old Testament.

The first promise God made to Abram was that he would give Abram land. This land was Canaan, which includes the modern-day nation of Israel. Second, God promised Abram many descendants. Abaram and his wife Sarai were both old and had no children yet. Still, God promised that their children were to become a great nation. Third, God promised to bless Abram and make hima blessing to the world.

These are some large promises to make, and Abram could have chosen to ignore God. But, because of his great faith in God, Abram belived God and did what he was instructed to do.
