Another one of Jesus' disciples spent some time on an island,
too. And while he was there, God showed him what it will be like when Jesus takes His believers home to heaven.
There will be a new heaven and a new earth. All sadness and crying and sickness and death will be gone. The new city of God will be enormous—and more beautiful than anything you've ever seen. A spectacular wall will surround the city like a glittering rainbow made of millions of colorful jewels. And there will be twelve giant gates in the wall, each made of solid pearl. The streets will be polished gold that glistens like glass. And the buildings will be of shimmering gold and glass.
A Picture of Eternal Life
Jesus and other writers of the New Testament often speak about "eternal life". This life begins when we put our faith and trust in Jesus and turn to him to forgive our sins, making us acceptable to God.
When he first came to earth, Jesus spoke to a woman about the living water he gives us so that we will never be thirsty again. This water is "like a flowing fountain that gives eternal life"(John 4:13).
In God's eternal city, the river that gives life is a major part of this wondrous place. To enjoy this life is happiness beyond anything we can possibly imagine. Gaze upon this lovely picture of eternal life.
