Let There Be Light

Genesis 1:1-5

Many, many years ago, back in the very beginning of time,

God created the heavens and the earth. But the earth was blacker than black with darkness. And there was nothing but emptiness both far and wide. Back then, the earth was a lonely place.

And then there was light! And God was pleased with the light, for it lit up the whole earth with its sunny brightness and golden warmth.

Now God knew this light was very good, but He did not stop there.

God gently made the earth to spin so that there could also be darkness. He called the dark "night," and the light He called "day."

Who is God?

Genesis reveals God as a person who is lovingly, intimately, and totally involved in our universe and in the unfolding of history.

Our universe is personal and purposeful because it was created by this loving God. God invites all of us to come to him as the originator of all things.
